Millipedes
Color: Dark brown or black, cylindrical, with numerous segments.
Legs: Many (typically 30-400), with two pairs per body segment.
Shape: Cylindrical, elongated body.
Size: Ranges from 1/2 inch to 6 inches, depending on the species.
Millipedes are primarily detritivores, feeding on decaying organic matter. They are known for their defensive behavior of curling into a spiral when threatened.
Millipedes are commonly found in damp, dark environments such as leaf litter, mulch, and soil.
Millipedes are not harmful to humans or pets, but some species can secrete a mild toxin that may cause mild skin irritation.
To prevent millipede infestations, it's important to reduce excess moisture around the home, seal any cracks or gaps, and remove decaying organic matter from the vicinity.
