Fruit flies are found in kitchens, near garbage cans, and around overripe fruits and vegetables. They are attracted to the smell of decaying material and fermenting liquids such as beer, wine, and soda.

Although fruit flies do not transmit diseases to humans, they can potentially contaminate food with bacteria from their breeding sites.

Promptly disposing of overripe or rotting fruits and vegetables, using tightly sealed containers for food storage, and cleaning up spills can help prevent fruit fly infestations.
