Odorous Ants nest near homes and produce a strong, rotten coconut-like smell when crushed. Native to the US, these ants are very social, living in colonies of up to 100,000 members.
Odorous house ants like to eat dead insects and sugary sweets, especially aphid honeydew.
These ants typically have a lifespan of several years and frequently establish their colonies in exposed soil, under stones, logs, mulch, debris, and similar items. They may also nest in cracks in walls and floors.
While Odorous House ants do not pose a direct health threat, they can contaminate food by leaving waste behind.
1. Eliminate standing water as pests, like ants, mosquitoes, and termites, are attracted to moisture.
2. Trim tree branches and other plants near your home to prevent them from providing a pathway into your home.
3. Ensure there are no cracks or small openings around the foundation.
4. Avoid storing firewood and building materials next to your home.
